Yesterday, the new owner of the local highway mart/gas station greeted me with a “namaste!” that’s pretty dang exotic for this neck of the woods. I was thrilled, I tell you!
I also saw a confusing pair of bumper stickers on one car. One sticker read, “Honk if you love Neptune” and the second said “Don’t blame me, I voted Republican.”
I fear I’m missing something. Tell me if you can figure it out.

In knitting news, I have needed to pick up the sweater I am knitting for afghans for afghans current campaign, in which they are collecting sweaters and vests for people 9-18 years old. They are hoping to get 900! and the deadline is Nov. 3, so what have I been waiting for?

seamless yoke sweater in progress

I am making the seamless yoked sweater as per Elizabeth Zimmermann’s instruction, in Lamb’s Pride bulky, color: Dark Earth. I cast on and knit a sleeve yesterday. I will hopefully get the second sleeve done today and be able to join sweater body and sleeves tonight. I probably won’t have enought of the brown, so I am going to do a green patterned yoke, with this yarn that I purchased not so long ago.

Who has the most refined style? Persephassa, of course! Click on the daily wears section of her photoalbum to see it. I will never be like that, and I don’t want to, but it sure is good to look at. She shops indie, too!

Opal has new dolly, Emily.

Opal picked her out from this etsy shop and paid for it with her own money. (It was the shop’s first sale, too.)

mercury retrograde is upon us. It’s okay with me this time. I have been doing retrograde type things lately anyway. Clean up, clean up. That whole photo thing I have been into lately. Organizing all the pictures stored on my computer. That kind of thing.
I need to change the oil in my car. NOW.

We bought a new parakeet the other day, to keep Blueberry company. I hate to see a social animal alone, you know? The new one’s name is Popsicle. sigh. Blueberry and Popsicle are all bonded and preening each other.
Here’s the thing, I had to clip Popsicle’s wings so that I can open the cage. By the time they grow back, she will used to us and won’t freak out, flying all over the house. I hope.

October, oh how I love thee…

Now didn’t I start off this month so cocky about how I had released myself from the Romantic Mythos? “Seas have their source, and so have shallow springs, and Love is Love, in beggars and in kings,” so the song goes, and here I was disbelieving it.
But no, October has blown in with all it’s Scorpian bittersweet and I realize that I do indeed harbor several broken hearts…
So many compromises have been made. And I suppose that it is the acceptance of this that really brings a person closer to being an Elder than anything.
But what do I know?

I got an order a week ago for a scarf like the one I made for my friend Heidie. That one seen here

I made this autumnal beauty.

This type of project is a lot of fun. I never know how the colors will work together til I get aways past each combo. I learn a lot of about combinations doing this, if I care to pay attention.

I have been steadily working on wrapping up swaps and old projects. I will not be doing as many swaps in the future, at least not for the time being. Nothing personal, only a reservation of energies, now that I seem compelled to finish things. You know, i sign up for a cd swap, and I can’t just burn the durn things and send them out, no, I have to make a custom sewn pouch for each one, and hand write the playlists on recycled paper, and so on. and then half the time I don’t even like the music on the cds I receive, and who knows if they like the music on mine? Which reminds me, , I want to send you a copy of that mix…
I bought some little notebooks and I write a daily list on each page. I am fairly well impressed, not to be full of myself or anything, by how well I have been staying on task. I now feel uncomfortable if I have old projects hanging fire. This is quite novel. I like it! It’s like I get “anxiety in advance” if ends are raveling all over the place.
Guys, do you see the shift? I am so excited!! It won’t be long now, I am maturing past my flakiness! My house is staying clean, too!
I even went and wrapped up my trusty old site, fivegallonbucket.net, and I am now sending everyone over to the etsy shop. I have needed to do this for a long time. I will maintain (well, start maintain my existing) mailing list, too. More cleanup. yep. So go check out the old site and see how nifty and neat it looks.

And I figured out my next tattoo. I can’t tell you what it is, cause I don’t want to spoil the surprise. I will say it is going to be on my knuckles. And it is political in nature. Cause I’m so fuckin tough. ha hah ah hah!

I hear Opal yipping like a wild dog in the house (computer is in the outside office) and now there’s pounding, too, so I think that’s my cue.
be well all you happy people!

BIG NEWS!!! We have water again! Finally. I have been laundering like a crazy woman. Here’s a tip: If you’re going to pick somewhere to live, check for availablity of public laundromats first, huh?

I finally finished these hats for a special order. Now I gotta get paid!

I am part of a Street Team over at etsy. I have been really enthusiastic about community building for the purposes of cross-promotion these days!
We are putting together a Etsy Art & Craft market for the holiday season. It’s going to be on Sunday, Nov. 19 from 10am-6pm. Long day. I’ll take Alice. Venue is It’s a Beautiful Pizza at 34th and Belmont. so come if you can, tell your friends, all that. Pretty soon I am going to be started a community here on LJ for the PDX etsy group. Tonight, if I can find the time.

My blog has been so intermittant and maybe a little boring with all this business focus, I fear. Maybe I oughta get over that notion.
I have been getting over a lot lately. A sort of emotional decluttering! Damn it feels good. Finally admitted outloud that I’m not into having livestock. Detachment from that project takes a great load off of my shoulders. I fear for creatures in my care. ha ha!
So, I finally decided I don’t really want to knit socks, right? I even went so far as to rip back the socks I started for my pa. And now I have Sock Fever! And scarcely any time to knit any. I signed up for Socktoberfest, even! My name is up there, but have I started a sock? No. What I have done is begun to teach Alice to knit, so that she can make socks! I think that counts, damn straight.

I really want to be in the Roller Derby!

That’s a lot!
I have been studying color theory. Faber Birren’s Principles of Color is a very good book. I have been so busy making things and doing a lot of cleaning work this week.

Life has been very very good. It’s heater and wool sweater season. Hurray!
